The Light Fantastic

Research
Kyra is researching a practice-based PhD within the University of Bristol's Department of Drama: Theatre, Film, Television. Her research addresses the screen as a site for choreography, and curating The Light Fantastic events is an integral research tool for this work

Kyra has a degree in Dance Theatre from Laban, London, where in tandem with completing intensive physical training in contemporary dance and complementary disciplines, she developed her particular interest in choreography, choreological studies (developing an articulate understanding of movement, based on the research and analysis of Rudolph Laban) and lighting design for live performance. Around this time she began exploring work for the screen and drawing on experimental video/ film art

After several years working in dance, theatre & film as a performer, choreographer and project manager, Kyra resumed her studies with an MA in Visual Performance (Time-Based Media) at Dartington College of Arts, Devon.  This research, completed on a part-time basis whilst continuing her professional practice, allowed her to develop her thinking around the nature of live performance and integrating screen media into the performance event; and to focus on concepts of interactivity and the relationship between artist and audience
